482 Visa (Temporary Skill Shortage)

The 482 visa Temporary Skill Shortage visa allows employers to sponsor employees to work for a set period of years. To be eligible your occupation must appear on either the short or medium term strategic list of 482 visa occupations list here.

The nomination process involves proving you will pay the annual salary market rate which is above the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold Labour market testing- advertising the role in a prescribed way for 28 days proving you cannot find a suitable Australian worker and proving that it is a genuine position (exemptions apply for applicants from certain countries – click here for a list of exempt countries)

482 visa TO PR PATHWAY

After 2 years on a 482 visa for the same employer it may be possible to transition to a permanent visa – The 186 Visa in the Temporary Residence Transition stream (TRT). Please not your employer will need to nominate you for this visa. All TSS visa holders can seek permanent residency through the Employer Nominated Scheme (186 visa) under the Temporary Residence Transition under any occupation list: Short-term (STSOL), Long-term (MLTSSL), or Regional Occupation List (ROL). The required period of employment for TSS 482 visa holders has been reduced from three years to two with the most recent sponsoring employer. Read more about the 186 TRT visa here.
