The New Skills in Demand Visa Coming in 2024
The Australian government and department of immigration have announced a new visa will available to applicants in 2024. The new visa will be named the Skills in Demand Visa and this visa will gradually replace the existing 482 TSS visa and will bring about new rules and changes. The first major change is that the visa will have three pathways – the new Skills in Demand Visa Pathways will depend on your salary. These new changes announced are designed to streamline the visa process for employers and applicants, but these new visa rules have not been made in law yet but here is the latest information based on what has been announced so far –
The Skills in Demand visa pathways will include:
- Specialist Skills Pathway (if you earn above $135,000)
- Core Skills Pathway (if you earn above $70,000)
- Essential Skills Pathway (if you earn below $70,000)
Specialist Skills Pathway:
- Will target highly skilled professionals crucial to Australia’s economic growth.
- Requirements:
- Guaranteed annual earnings of at least AUD 135,000
- Open to all occupations except trades, machinery operation/driving, and manual labor.
- Fast-tracked processing within 7 days.
Core Skills Pathway:
- Will target skilled workers in occupations facing critical shortages.
- Requirements:
- Occupation listed on the new Core Skills Occupation List, identified by Jobs and Skills Australia.
- Minimum annual earnings meeting the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) – currently set at AUD 70,000 (
Essential Skills Pathway:
- Will target workers in essential roles earning below AUD 70,000.
- Requirements:
- Possessing skills deemed essential for Australia’s economy.
- Currently sponsored through labor agreements.
- Benefits:
- Filling critical workforce gaps.
- Supporting economic growth.
